You don’t know what to do or where to start.

Welcome from
Cheryl Habersaat, LCSW LLC

You’re googling “how to help my anxious child”

I’m a therapist who guides parents in stressing less about their child’s anxiety while helping children towards calming their own mind.

Offering in-person therapy in Wyckoff, NJ and virtual sessions for those living in New Jersey or Massachusetts, I specialize in treating anxiety and OCD tendencies.

Learn more about me:

My Education I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology, with a Social Work Concentration, from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2014 and finished my Master of Social Work from New York University in 2015. My interest in treating children and adolescents led me to undergo advanced post-masters training at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies, graduating from their Child Program in 2019.

Specialized Trainings To further my skills in treating children, teens, and young adults with anxiety and OCD tendencies, I have completed the following: *SPACE: Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions *Brief interventions for panic attacks *The fundamentals of CBT *Identifying and treating Pure “O”OCD *CBT for OCD in children and adolescents

Professional Experience I began my career in a Psychiatric Community Home, in which I provided intensive individual, family, and group CBT therapy, for children and teens who were often struggling with depression, anxiety, emotional regulation, trauma, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts/behaviors. In addition to my full-time job, I provided psychotherapy, in a private practice, to children, teenagers, and adults, who were having difficulty managing stress, dealing with big life changes, and sorting out challenging relationships. I transitioned to a school-based counseling program, in which I was the Clinical Program Manager for Hawthorne's Lincoln Middle School and Hawthorne High School. I was able to provide in-school counseling to students who often struggled with school anxiety, social anxiety, low self-esteem, friendships, and academic challenges. There, I also supported parents and teachers through psychoeducational workshops, worked closely with guidance counselors and child study team members to assist in creating and implementing I&RS plans, 504 plans, and Individualized Education Plans (IEP), and was responsible for providing school clearances when students needed to be assessed for risk of suicide. I decided to follow my dream of opening my own private practice, during the COVID-19 crisis. I have been helping those who are feeling overwhelmed, scared, worried, anxious, and stressed, through telehealth and in my office, located in Wyckoff, New Jersey.
